Luxor Walk the streets of the city or take a Nile Cruise. Some of the major attractions that Luxor has to offer include: Luxor Temple Open: daily, but closed from 2- 4 p.m. May-September 6am ? 8pm, October-April 6am-9pm Entry: LE35 This temple was built by Amenophis 11 and is 260 meters long. There are many impressive features here such as the Colonnades with 14 columns, which has a masonry wall with reliefs depicting various phases of the Festival of Obet. 74 papyrus columns surround the Courtyard of Ramsees 11 and the Abu El Haggag Mosque dates back to the 6th century. Valley of Kings Location: on the hills immediately behind the West Bank of Luxor Open: summer daily 6am-6pm, winter 9am-5pm Entry: LE55; LE 70 to visit King Tut?s Tomb There are four different parts to the Valley of the Kings. The first is King Tut?s Tomb and you do need a separate ticket to gain entrance from the other tombs. This is smaller than the others, but is the most famous of all. There are three phases to visiting the other tombs. Phase 1 is one of the most remote tombs and you do have to climb several steps to get to it, but the climb is worth it. Phase 2 has two tombs and in one of these you can see paintings and reliefs. There is one tomb in Phase 3 and is one of the most interesting with well preserved decorative schemes. Temple of KarnakOpen: daily May-September 6am ? 8pm, October-April 6am-9pm Entry: LE35 This temple is awe inspiring in its majestic structure. It has been a place of pilgrimage for over 4000 years and is the largest temple ever built. It covers about 200 acres and the Hypostyle Hall is supported by 134 columns. This is the home of the ancient god of war ? Amun and it has the largest sacred lake of all other temples. You can also have a snack in the small café. SafetyAs a tourist in Egypt, you receive the ultimate protection. Tourism is very important here and all the hotels and tourist destinations are very cognizant of safety. You do need to be careful of your belongings and do not display any valuables or large amounts of money when in public.
