Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is a very popular vacation destination in Mexico and it is easy to see why: warm, sunny weather, sandy beaches, exceptional resorts and exciting nightlife are the norm at any time of the year. Although the main language is Spanish, most of the people in the resorts and hotels speak English as they are quite accustomed to having visitors from the US, Canada and elsewhere.

At one time, Cabo San Lucas was a small fishing village and the “perfect haven for pirates”. Even now it is still a small town by Mexico standards with less than 40,000 people, but since it relies upon tourism (and luxury tourism at that) it has a wealth of attractions for its visitors.

Accommodations in Cabo San Lucas

The main hotels area of the town is called the “Corridor”. This is the strip where you will find the resorts and hotels closest to the beach. You can rent a beach house or stay in a luxurious resort. The Bahia Condo Hotel has rooms overlooking the Sea of Cortez and the famous Lands End Arch. Enjoy the outdoor pool and the Jacuzzi as well as the fitness center. The Calindo Cabo San Lucas Hotel is located only 30 minutes from the airport and offers a breathtaking view of the gardens from the window of your room. With its own semi-private beach, three pools and Jacuzzis located on a cliff facing the sea, this is the ultimate in any vacation.

Dining in Cabo San Lucas

When in Cabo San Lucas, it is customary to ask for your check when you are finished dining in a restaurant. If you don’t ask for the check, you might be there all day waiting for it as the serving staff will not bring it to you without being asked. The streets of the town are mainly cobblestone and are often cracked and uneven, so you have to be careful when walking.

Tourist Attractions in Cabo San Lucas

Even if you visit Cabo San Lucas simply to enjoy the weather and the beach, there are tourist attractions galore to keep you fully entertained. The Arch is one of the most famous landmarks of this town. Created by the waves from the Pacific Ocean, here you can see the seals and sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks.

Visit the Glass Blowing Factory to see glass created right before your eyes. Take a horseback ride to the lighthouse at Los Cabos or take a Pirate cruise where you can tour the bay on a pirate ship with the crew dressed in pirate garb. Learn the history of this town and enjoy lunch and cocktails as you see the sights. Visit the San Jose Estuary and Bird Sanctuary and take advantage of tours to nearby towns such as Todos Santos and la Paz. Visit the village of La Candelaria where witchcraft was studied and practiced or explore the trails of Xplora, a network of trails through the Cabo Real Nature Reserve.

Cabo San Lucas is more than lazing on the beach, swimming and sightseeing. The wealth of activities you can take part in are exceptional. You can make this a true golfing vacation with the numerous championship courses you have to choose from. Sailing, surfing, snorkelling and windsurfing – these are just some of the water sports you can take part in.

Sportsfishing in Cabo San Lucas

However, Cabo San Lucas is the sportfishing capital of the world. Here you can take one of many fishing charters to waters teeming with all kinds of fish. Aboard a luxury yacht, you can fish the waters of Gordo Bank, Golden Gate Bank or Jamie Bank, where the waters are teeming with fish of all kinds. Marlin can be caught year round and there are millions of bullfish caught every year. Why not take part in a sportfishing competition? You just might come out a big winner, and at worst have a fantastic time with a new fish story.
